Introduction to Character Types

The heroes of the world of Numenera come in three basic flavors. Itis important to note that the descriptions here are very much generalizations — you are not confined to the stereotypes afforded here, but they should at least inform the decisions you'll make going forward, and how this interacts with your Descriptor and Focus.

Glaives

  • A Glaive is the effective Warrior class.
  • Skills, equipment, focus all aim toward direct combat, martial arts, and the like.
  • Common professions: hunter, guardian, soldier, scout, warlord, bandit, athlete.
  • Stat focus: Typically Might or Speed

Nanos

  • A Nano is the effective Wizard class.
  • Skills, equipment, focus all aim toward ranged combat, enhancement, and the like.
  • Common professions: healer, battle-mage, sorcerer, wise man, historian, archaeologist.
  • Stat focus: Typically Intellect

Jacks

  • A Jack is the effective Rogue class.
  • Skills, equipment, focus all aim toward whatever will help the Jack most at the current time, they are experts at adjustment.
  • Common professions: thief, jack-of-all-trades, spymaster, crafter, entertainer.
  • Stat focus: None specifically

Glints

  • A Glint is a Public Face/Support class.
  • Skills, equipment, focus all aim toward social interactions and manipulation.
  • Common professions: entertainer, leader, merchant, bard.
  • Stat focus: Typically Intellect.

Seekers

  • A Seeker is a driven explorer, more at home in dangerous ruins than the city.
  • Skills, equipment, focus all aim toward survival and exploration.
  • Common professions: delver, explorer, mapper.
  • Stat focus: Speed and Might, although truly all are important.
